David Lad is one of the world’s foremost scholars of the Hebrew Bible, and has written over a thousand books on the subject.
He is the author of several books on ancient Israelite religion and history, including The Bible and the People: The Ancient History of the Jewish People, the first of which, The History of Israel, was published in 1987.
David Lad is also an accomplished linguist, having written several languages including Yiddish, Hebrew, Yiddu, Yuezhi, Aramaic, Yom Kippur, and Yiddur.
Lad is the director of the Middle East Research Center at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has conducted extensive research in the Middle Eastern languages of the Aramaic language family.
Lad was also a prominent lecturer on the history of Israel at the University of Chicago in the 1970s, and is a former president of the American Hebrew Congress.
He taught at Hebrew University for 15 years, and taught at the American Biblical Society, the Hebrew College of California, and the Hebrew Union College, among other institutions.
Lad’s books on Hebrew language history and literature, which include The History and Life of the Torah and The Language of the Old Testament, have sold over five million copies worldwide.
More recently, Lad has written extensively on the topic of the biblical kingdom of Israel and the Jewish people.
He also authored several books about the origins of the ancient Jewish nation, and wrote a number of articles for a variety of religious and academic publications, including the Journal of the Abrahamic Covenant, the Jewish Bible Review, and several publications for the American Oriental Society.
Lad has been a member of the World Jewish Congress since 2000.
